Time to market is a major topic in today’s software maintenance (e.g. outsourced development). Agile realization and implementation of new requirements and wishes is of great importance.
Besides themes such as size, complexity, and maintainability, it is interesting to look at what (in average circumstances) the time to market, to an important extent, depends on.
Research has shown that most maintenance work is in the analysis of the current situation and the way in which changes can be implemented. If we add documenting and design to this, we come to 70% of the time, not to mention the costs.
As soon as the time factor starts to play a part, we come back to human input. This will, to a great extent, increase risks. If all the insights from software analysis are available and linked in an accessible way, human input will be significantly supported and risks will be greatly decreased.
